Job Summary:
The Mathematics Teacher (HL & SL) for the Diploma Programme (DP) will be responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in both Higher Level (HL) and Standard Level (SL) mathematics courses. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the IB curriculum, strong pedagogical skills, and a passion for fostering a positive learning environment. This role requires a commitment to developing students' critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and a love for mathematics.
Key Responsibilities:
- Instruction and Curriculum Delivery:
- Plan and deliver engaging and challenging lessons for HL and SL mathematics courses in the IB Diploma Programme.
- Develop and implement lesson plans that align with the IB curriculum and educational standards.
- Use a variety of teaching methods and resources to accommodate different learning styles and abilities.
- Assessment and Evaluation:
- Design and administer formative and summative assessments that accurately measure student understanding and progress.
- Provide timely and constructive feedback to students on their performance.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student achievements and progress.
- Student Support and Engagement:
- Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation and engagement.
- Provide individual support and guidance to students to help them achieve their academic goals.
- Organize and facilitate extracurricular activities related to mathematics, such as math clubs or competitions.
- Collaboration and Professional Development:
- Collaborate with colleagues to share best practices and develop interdisciplinary learning opportunities.
- Participate in department meetings, curriculum planning, and school-wide initiatives.
- Engage in continuous professional development to stay current with IB standards and educational best practices.
- Communication and Outreach:
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues regarding student progress and any concerns.
- Prepare and present reports on student performance and progress as required.
- Participate in parent-teacher conferences and school events to build strong relationships within the school community.
- Compliance and Standards:
- Ensure all teaching practices comply with the school’s policies and IB standards.
- Prepare students thoroughly for the IB examinations, ensuring they understand the format and expectations.
- Maintain the integrity and confidentiality of student information and assessment materials.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Master’s degree in mathematics or a related field
- Teaching certification or qualification, preferably with a focus on secondary education.
- Proven experience teaching mathematics at the secondary level, preferably within an IB World School.
- Deep understanding of the IB Diploma Programme curriculum and assessment criteria for HL and SL mathematics.
- Strong classroom management skills and the ability to create a positive learning environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in using technology to enhance teaching and learning.
